The Relationships Initiative Workshop

Help students build relationships and self identity during the first weeks of school.

Building Relationships for Back-to-School

Educators know that relationships can make or break a school year. This two-week curriculum offers resources for elementary and secondary educators to focus on relationships as they start the school year. Designed by Dr. Shayla Griffin, the Relationships Initiative is a series of ice-breakers, classroom activities, and closing circles aimed at building strong relationships that become the foundation of learning for the entire year.

This curriculum and all of its resources are free to use. For an in-depth dive into all of the possible uses of these items, we invite educators to attend our free workshop.

Join the Workshop

The Relationships Initiative curriculum challenges educators and schools to commit two weeks at the beginning of the school year to identity, relationship, and community building. During this free workshop, participants will learn about the Relationships Initiative curriculum and the research behind it as well as the flexible options for implementation in various classroom contexts. Participants will practice some of the activities and engage in collaborative planning time with support from the authors. You can sign up for this event on EMU’s website. Attendees can receive three SCECH Hours for participating.

This workshop is hosted by the Justice Leaders Collaborative and the Michigan Learning Channel. It is facilitated by Dr. Shayla Reese Griffin, Lois McCullen Parr, Dawn Espy and Greg Myers and co-hosted by EMU Professional Programs and Training. Support for the Relationships Initiative Workshop provided by Meemic, Washtenaw ISD, MASA and 482Forward
