This documentary tells the story of how mentors and young men of color in Washtenaw County, MI built a community by learning and producing a full-length studio hip-hop album. The program came out of Washtenaw My Brother’s Keeper, part of the National MBK initiative started by President Barack Obama which invited communities to uplift men and young men of color through community conversations, healing spaces, social time, and intergenerational learning. In addition to hip-hop and music production education, the program utilizes restorative practices to engage young men in dialogue and processing of emotions, trauma, relationships, and challenging situations, helping to support their growth as artists and leaders in their community.
