Ancient Ecosystems in the Niagara Escarpment | Niagara Falls

The unique geology of the Niagara Escarpment reveals clues to a coral reef ecosystem that once thrived in this area nearly half a billion years ago. In this resource, students will examine fossils embedded in the Niagara Escarpment, which is the cliff over which the Niagara Falls flow. Using this resource, students will closely observe fossil images from the Ordovician-Silurian period and use their observations to determine the ancient organism represented by each fossil.
