Be Bear Aware | On Grizzly Ground

In this lesson, students will learn how Wyomingites in the greater Yellowstone area live in harmony with the grizzly bears that inhabit their local ecosystem. Through the interviews and information provided in the video from Wyoming PBS, the students will observe some of the practices that help the locals “Be Bear Aware.” Then, the students use this information to create a piece of visual art (a poster) that advocates for practices that help humans stay safe around bears. Finally, the students will reflect on their own art and provide helpful critiques to their peers.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

• Students will be able to take information from an outside source and create a piece of visual art based on that information.
• Students will be able to explain several ways humans can stay safe when living in an area with bears.
• Students will be able to reflect on their own art as well as the art of their peers.
