Chiricahua National Monument | The Arizona Collection

Chiricahua National Monument south east of Tucson is an imposing landscape that encompasses nearly 12,000 acres and was home to the ancient Opata peoples, the ancestors of the Chiricahua Apache. The unique geological formations called pinnacles provide an ecosystem, part of the Sky Islands, that supports a wide variety of life; human as well as plant and animal. From ancient history to modern times, the land has hosted Indigneous peoples, pioneers, workers from the Civilian Conservation Corps and today’s hikers and campers.
