Clarence “Cap” Wigington | MinneHistory

Black pioneer Clarence Wigington was an architect for the city of St. Paul. Nicknamed “Cap” because he was a captain in Minnesota’s Home Guard during World War I, Wigington designed schools, park houses, a water tower, and even ice palaces for the St. Paul Winter Carnivals. Community leader architect Clarence “Cap” Wigington left an amazing legacy in ice and stone.
