Climate Change and Its Impact on Species | Our Land

Learn about how drought conditions and climate change are threatening the fauna of various regions. The solution is adaption and restoration of our habitat. Our Land offers coverage on this problem in a series of videos with insight from professionals in that field and can be used along with the Supporting our Native Fauna Lesson Plan to help students learn about impacts of climate change and what humans can do to help.

Learn about how The Rio Grande has been anywhere from dry to critically low and could even stop flowing as warm, dry conditions persist. Our Land visits the dry bed and talks with biologist Thomas Archdeacon about why the drying occurs and how it affects endangered fish and other species in the region.

Additionally, The Pueblo of Santa Ana has been working on wildlife and habitat restoration projects that will make the pueblo more resilient in the face of climate change. Some of these projects include riparian restoration along the Rio Grande and Jemez River and the reintroduction of species.
