Conflict Over Land and the American Revolution

Examine why land was so important to Great Britain, Native Americans, and colonists in the 18th century. Specifically, students understand how events such as the Seven Years’ War, Pontiac’s War, and The Royal Proclamation of 1763 fueled tensions between Native Americans, colonists, and Britain, and how these tensions contributed to the start of the American Revolution. By analyzing maps and viewing media clips, students understand the ways in which the American Revolution was about the future of North America.

Evangeline Mitchell is a veteran teacher of over 20 years, teaching social studies at a variety of grade levels. She currently teaches government at Klein High School in Klein, Texas. Mitchell was named the 2023 Gilder Lehrman Teacher of the Year for Texas and the 2024 Daughters of the American Revolution Teacher of the Year for Texas. When not teaching, she enjoys spending time with her twin daughters, coaching their Special Olympics Teams.
