Idaho leather braider Mike “Hooey” Storch has been perfecting his craft for more than 50 years. A longtime ranch hand, Storch specializes in making bands for high-end handmade hats, each of which has his signature mark: the complicated “pineapple” knot. We spent a day with Hooey to see his process from beginning to end. It’s one in which he takes great pride. “When you buy something of mine, it’s made to last,” he told us. “It’s made the traditional way and it’s made with care.”
