Density and Separation of Materials | Outdoor Idaho

In the 1860’s thousands of gold seekers poured into Idaho, intent upon striking it rich. They built cities and mills and tunneled into mountains. After about 2 years the towns disappeared as hopes faded. Hear from descendants, see old photos, learn about Idaho’s mining history.

This lesson is designed for middle school or freshman Physical Science. In this lesson, students will explore the concepts of density and separating mixtures through the phenomenon of the gold rush and mining towns of Idaho. This lesson includes video discussion, a google slide presentation, a virtual lab, and a jamboard exit ticket.
