Equality, Opportunity, and Affirmative Action | Black and Jewish America

Discover the beginnings of affirmative action, starting in 1961 with an executive order from President John F. Kennedy. Students will use critical thinking skills to talk about how the policies of President Kennedy and later President Lyndon B. Johnson impacted Black and Jewish Americans and their coalition. While affirmative action helped reduce barriers and increased diversity for Black Americans, women, and other minorities to achieve a better quality of life and education, it also contributed to a strain on the Black and Jewish alliance for civil rights.
