Examining Cultural Expression through Music | NEXT at the Kennedy Center

In this media gallery, students will interact with various clips from Hip Hop group The Roots’ Residency at The Kennedy Center in 2022. Students will explore culture through art and examine the ways that music has served as an avenue for expression. Students will have the opportunity to watch clips from the residency and answer comprehension questions, with the option to extend their learning through podcast and lyrical analysis extensions.

Note: we highly recommend that educators preview the performances, and lyrics in the performances, before deciding to facilitate the lyrical analysis extension activity, to ensure that it is appropriate for their classroom/students.
