For the Future: Seeds, Food, and Culture | Our Land

Learn about the importance of seeds and how and why people in the arid Southwest select seeds for certain traits, including drought durability. Students will also consider what seeds or foods are important to their own families and cultures. They will consider how knowledge is passed from generation to generation and imagine what knowledge they would like to pass along to their descendants. 

As part of this lesson plan, students will learn from Aaron Lowden, a farmer, and the Indigenous Seed Keepers Network Program Coordinator at the Pueblo of Acoma. They will also learn how to interview someone and practice asking questions and recording answers in order to pass that knowledge on to their schoolmates.
