Fort Ancient | Kentucky Studies

The Fort Ancient people were Native Americans who lived in villages in the middle Ohio Valley from 1000 to 1750 AD. Their homelands encompassed an area from present-day Columbus, Ohio, to Parkersburg, West Virginia, to Corbin, Kentucky, and the southeastern portion of Indiana.

They lived during an era known as the late prehistoric period. Prehistoric is defined as the period before there are written records. The Fort Ancient people came before the Shawnee and other historically documented tribes of Kentucky.
