Fort St. Charles: Minnesota’s Northwest Angle | Prairie Mosaic Shorts

Learn about Fort St. Charles, which resides in the Northwest Angle region that divides Minnesota and Canada. On an island, Fort St. Charles has acted as a waypoint for travelers, a trading post, and a burial site. Initally conceived as a trading post and hub for the French, it was eventually lost to time after several of the fort’s residents were killed by Native Americans, then rediscovered and refurbished. The fort is part of the US National Register of Historic Places.
