George Washington Carver Finds Fame and Befriends Henry Ford

Throughout the 1920s and 1930s, Carver gained ever-increasing fame. He was offered jobs by well-known individuals. The inventor Thomas Edison offered him a job in New Jersey. Carver befriended leaders from around the world and in 1937 met business mogul Henry Ford at a meeting of pioneers in the chemurgy movement, a branch of applied chemistry.

This segment from Iowa PBS’s George Washington Carver: An Uncommon Life documentary includes interviews from people who knew or were influenced by him. Interviews took place at Iowa State University, Simpson College and Tuskegee University.
