George Washington Carver’s Experience at Tuskegee

Carver had never been in the Deep South. He had many concerns about Alabama’s system of agriculture and the heavy reliance on cotton and the system of tenant farming called “sharecropping.” Carver spent much of his career at Tuskegee University helping local farmers improve the quality of their lives.

This segment from Iowa PBS’s George Washington Carver: An Uncommon Life documentary includes interviews from people who knew or were influenced by him. Interviews took place at Iowa State University, Simpson College and Tuskegee University.
