Grant Kohrs Ranch Barn | Keeping the Barn

Near Deer Lodge, in 1866 Conrad Kohrs purchased the ranch that included a beautiful home,land, and cattle. Eventually the Grant-Kohrs operation started breeding horses. Today the oldest buildings on the site are simple log barns. They reflect what the earliest structures looked like, plain, simple, single use. This ranch pampered their horses as each stallion had their own barn. They cross-bred the forerunners of today’s quarter horses.
