Discover the populist origins of the Farmer-Labor Party, one of the most successful third parties in American history. The Farmer-Labor Party came about before World War I, as a response to a lack of action by the incumbent Republican Party, who were more or less unchalleneged in their rule of Minnesota. The Farmer-Labor Party was more favorable to the working class and became successful in the early-mid 20th century, before joining the Democratic Party after World War II. This created the Democratic Farmer-Labor Party, also known as the DFL, which still operates in Minnesota as of 2023.
