Habituation – Helpful or Harmful? | Silverback

Nature’s Silverback follows filmmaker and conservationist Vianet Djenguet as he documents the rare process of habituating a Lowland Gorilla family in the Congo’s Kahuzi-Biega National Park. With fewer than 5,000 gorillas left, habituation supports ecotourism to fund habitat protection—but it also disrupts natural behaviors. Students will gather evidence for a structured debate on the benefits and drawbacks of habituating gorilla families.
