Harnessing Sci-Tech for Social Innovation | Futures Literacy

From ensuring more communities have access to basic needs to connecting people to data they need to protect their environment, these two case studies taken from A Brief History of the Future demonstrate different ways that science can drive social innovations and help communities create a better future for themselves.

Students will be introduced to the concept of social innovation and how science and technology can be leveraged to drive it. Through class discussions and activities, students are given opportunities to recognize and propose social innovations in their community.

About the Author

Michelle Blanchet is the co-founder of The Educators’ Lab—an organization that supports teacher-driven projects that create impact for students and their communities. A former teacher herself, she has worked with a wide range of organizations to facilitate changemaking in education and support teacher innovation. She is the author of two books.
