Hmong Paj Ntaub | Worn Within

In America, the Hmong people are often affiliated with the Vietnam War and its post-war creation, the Story Cloth, an embroidered tapestry. However, the embroidery designs on the Story Cloth are quite different than their traditional designs, or Paj Ntaub, found on their clothing.

Paj Ntaub, or “Flower Cloth” in Hmong, is the umbrella term for all needlework used to create the Hmong dress, such as cross-stitch, appliqué, reverse appliqué, and batik designs.
