Idaho’s Climate Variability | Outdoor Idaho

The changes in Idaho in the past three decades have been astounding, affecting everything from cities and towns to public lands and wildlife. We examine some of those changes, as well as the reasons for optimism, in the nation’s 43rd state, a state of change.

Through DBI (Document Based Inquiry) and Socratic Discussion strategies, students will construct oral arguments supported by evidence for how increases in human population and per capita consumption of natural resources impact Idaho. These strategies will help students focus on the effects climate variability can have to: Agriculture, Water Resources, Human Health, Ecosystems and Forests.

Throughout the lesson students will analyze and interpret data on natural hazards that may forecast the future catastrophic events related to climate variability, especially temperature increase. At the end of the activity students will recognize how local temperature increases will have a lasting effect. Students will understand how they can help to prepare for and potentially develop solutions to slow down future climatic changes.
