Indian Boarding Schools | Playing for the World

The Fort Shaw Indian Boarding School was located in the Sun River Valley outside Great Falls, Montana. Families from reservations from across Montana sent their children away to Fort Shaw to get an education. These boarding schools were managed and funded by the Federal government and were focused on teaching Native American children to be “less native and more American.” While the girls who attended these schools did receive an education, it came at the expense of their culture and the customs they had grown up cherishing.
