Jonathan Blair grew up in the border region of Kentucky, West Virginia, and Virginia. For generations, his ancestors mined coal. His father is a mechanic who maintains trains that transport coal. The coal industry has been foundational to Blair’s family and community identity and survival. But today, the dwindling of this resource is leaving a void that he seeks to fill.
