Maus: Lessons Learned Despite “The Generational Canyon” | Art Spiegelman: Disaster Is My Muse

Using video from the American Masters film Art Spiegelman: Disaster Is My Muse, students learn about Art Spiegelman’s process in creating his graphic novel Maus, both artistically and in terms of interviews Spiegelman conducted with his father, a Holocaust survivor. This resource works well in a unit using Maus as a touchstone text; it can also be used in conjunction with excerpts of the graphic novel or in a unit on the Holocaust.
