Mercy Otis Warren | The Shot Heard ’Round the World

The blockade of Boston Harbor deprived citizens of clothing, food, and other necessities. Mercy Otis Warren, wife of Massachusetts assemblyman James Warren, spoke out against the punitive actions of the British Parliament with mostly anonymous letters and poems to newspapers. Warren also wrote plays and pamphlets protesting and satirizing British actions, and after the war, she wrote a three-volume history of the American Revolution.
