Muhammad Ali spent his childhood in the close-knit Parkland neighborhood in West Louisville in the 1940s and 1950s during segregation, when lunch counters, department stores, parks, and schools were divided by race. This video features interviews with Louisvillians who knew Ali in those times and documents how Ali spoke out against segregation and racism when he returned to the city as an 18-year-old Olympic champion in 1960.
