Net Zero School | Kentucky Field Trips

A net-zero building produces as much energy, or even more, energy than it consumes. The first public school in the nation to achieve net-zero energy usage was built in Kentucky: Richardsville Elementary. The school design features geothermal heat pumps and a rooftop solar array. Richardsville’s solar array produces 10 percent more energy than the school uses. The school sells that energy to the local utility company, and the money received goes back into education.
