Ocean Farmers | Sustainability Series

From seaweed to mussels, discover how these ocean-based foods are grown, careers in aquaculture, and how our food choices impact our planet, one bite at a time. During this video series students will meet different ocean farmers to hear their stories in aquaculture and how they play a role in our current and future food systems.

Cameron Barner, Co-owner of Love Point Oysters, introduces aquaculture and what it’s like to farm oysters. Atlantic Sea Farm’s Chief Marketing Officer, Jesse Baines, discusses how growing seaweed can play a role in building more resilient food systems, providing economic benefits to coastal communities, and offering healthy food options. Students will also meet Diane Kim, Senior Scientist at USC Wrigley Institute for Environmental Studies and Co-founder of Holdfast Aquaculture. She integrates her science background into her innovative work as an ocean farmer to find sustainable solutions using aquaculture.
