Patriots and Loyalists During the American Revolution

Explore the beliefs and experiences of Patriots and Loyalists during the Revolutionary War. Students learn the definitions of Patriot and Loyalist and develop keywords to identify Loyalists and Patriots. While listening to two colonists’ stories, students will take notes in a character map and answer questions about each colonist’s experience as a Loyalist or a Patriot. Students will analyze quotations from colonists using keywords to determine whether each quotation is from a Patriot or a Loyalist, resulting in a deeper understanding of both perspectives.
