Student reporters visit Re-Use Hawaiʻi, a non-profit organization that provides a space for people to drop off used or excess building materials and furniture for others to use.

In this case study from Hawaiʻi, middle school students present the basics of a re-use model of a circular economy, and its impact on the environment.

Students learn about the economic and environmental needs of island communities, sustainable resource management, and the basics of re-used versus recycled materials.

A suite of suggested engagement activities ask students to record their own resource management through a reflection activity, plan a swap table at their school, or investigate the resources that go into making a bicycle.
