Ever been told that you don’t belong to a club you’d really love to be a part of?  Growing up in a family that listened to all kinds of music, Rissi Palmer felt a special pull toward country songs. “If I was gonna do this,” she tells Rhiannon Giddens, this is the way I would tell my story.” But then she hit public school, where “other black kids were telling me, ‘We don’t love country music.’” Palmer spent years concentrating on other genres, such as R&B and hip hop,  before finding her way back to her favorite music.
