Stigma and Racism in Welfare Programs | Storming Caesars Palace

In this resource, students learn about the racialized history of welfare, and how welfare stigma formed, by analyzing the history of public assistance and engaging in a real-life budgeting exercise. Students are asked to think about how the stigmas associated with welfare developed. Educators are encouraged to select the lessons and activities that best fit their students’ needs and interests and to modify and trim as needed.
