The Boston Tea Party

Explore how a tax on tea led to the “Destruction of Tea” in Boston Harbor, also known as the Boston Tea Party, and fueled tensions between Great Britain and the colonists. Students examine how this protest fanned the flames of revolution and served to unite the colonies against the British. Students analyze media clips and historical objects to understand the importance of tea in the thirteen colonies as well as the issues and perspectives surrounding the Boston Tea Party and how this protest led to the American Revolution.

About the Author:
Evangeline Mitchell is a veteran teacher of over 20 years, teaching social studies at a variety of grade levels. She currently teaches government at Klein High School in Klein, Texas. Mitchell was named the 2023 Gilder Lehrman Teacher of the Year for Texas and the 2024 Daughters of the American Revolution Teacher of the Year for Texas. When not teaching, she enjoys spending time with her twin daughters, coaching their Special Olympics Teams.
