The Impact of Global Alliances on the Revolutionary War

Examine how global alliances impacted the Revolutionary War. Students analyze maps to explore the rivalries and wars between European powers in the mid-1700s that set the stage for different nations to choose sides in the Revolutionary War. Using media clips, students investigate the motives of Spain and France for working with the Americans, and the impact their involvement had on the war. Students also learn about the Europeans fighting with the British– the paid Hessian soldiers. Students may also complete an activity in which they analyze maps to understand the global politics of the 1760s.
