Jim Long tells the legend of Methodist circuit rider Lorenzo Dow who engaged with proselytizing the citizens of Old St Stephens. They became annoyed with his efforts and tarred and feathered him before running him out of town. Supposedly, he cursed the town with a plague of bats and owls.
