The Role of Bees in Pollination | Excursion Lab

Explore the importance of honeybees to our food supply in this virtual field trip to Kutik’s Everything Bees apiary in Oxford, NY. Kutik’s honey-making process requires a significant understanding of honey bees and their role as pollinators. They describe management of hives and the importance of healthy hives, not only for the honey industry, but all agricultural crops that require pollination.

Students will learn how to identify flower structures and their functions in relation to pollination, describe honey bee anatomical structures and their functions in pollination, the importance of environmental conditions on honey bee health and survival, the organization of bee colonies and the importance of group behavior on survival of the colonies.
