The Stockbridge Community During and After the American Revolution

Explore the story of the Stockbridge Community, now a federally recognized tribe known as the Stockbridge-Munsee Community, during the American Revolution. Students analyze Stockbridge’s contribution to the Patriot cause during the American Revolution and explore what the Treaty of Paris meant for Native people. Through background reading, discussion, and a short mapping activity, students build context about the tribe’s journey from the Hudson Valley to its current home in Wisconsin. This lesson helps students explore themes of loyalty, land, and survival.
