Understanding Plant and Animal Adaptations: Analysis & Media-Making | Eons | PBS All-Stars Lessons

Student-led inquiry is a powerful approach to give students ownership of their learning. In this lesson, students will explore a variety of resources from PBS Digital Studios’ Eons. Use this hands-on lesson to excite students about animal adaptation, evolution, and media-making.

This student-choice centered lesson is intentionally designed to be engaging, thought provoking, and adaptable with low or high access to technology. Students will be drawn into the topic, Adapt to Survive, and work collaboratively to chart their own path through the video gallery before finally showcasing their mastery of the topic in a choice of creative, original media productions.

About the Authors:

Clemencia Acevedo is a special education teacher at Don Pedro Albizu Campos (PSMS161) in West Harlem, New York. She engages in evocative writing and professional research on teaching practices and digital literacy with #DrewTeach teacher writers at Drew University. She has been selected as Ed Tech Model Teacher 2020-2021 by NYC DOE and is the recipient of New York City Department of Education Excellence in School Technology Award 2017. She is also the author of Supporting All Learners with Instructional Videos.

Jason Lineberger, English teacher to the stars, is a 26 year veteran of public education. This National Board Certified Teacher has taught all levels of English from 8-12 and currently serves Cleveland County Schools as the system’s Digital Learning Coordinator. Lineberger graduated from the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics and went on to study English Education at The University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill on a full academic scholarship. He has been an adjunct professor of Literature, a trainer for the North Carolina Teacher Academy, and a Lead Facilitator at the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching. He’s a regular conference presenter, and he gave a closing keynote address at the 2019 NCTIES conference.
