Vian Sora | Kentucky Studies

Louisville artist Vian Sora was born in 1976 in Baghdad, Iraq. Three years later, in 1979, Saddam Hussein came to power, beginning years of dictatorship and human rights violations. Sora grew up during the war with Iran in the 1980s and the first Persian Gulf War in 1991. She left Iraq in 2006, the year that the Iraqi Civil War began. She has lived in Louisville with her American husband since 2009.
