In 1889 A.J. Gibson forged a visual identity for the American northwest. About 90 of his designs brought a sense of civilization to western Montana and northern Idaho. His work on the Missoula courthouse led to an early retirement and prompted him pursue a second act devoted to his love of automobiles with his wife, Maud.
