We’re getting creative in the kitchen today on the Planning Period! Join us for music education and a digital storytelling project that’s an easy win for your class.

Watch, listen, cook, and learn with We Want the Funk

Catch Matt following a recipe and listening to a playlist inspired by the new PBS film, We Want the Funk. This film has a ton of opportunities for educators across subjects. History and social studies teachers will love the historical accounts, interviews, and look into American culture during the middle of the 1900s. Music teachers can dive into Funk music and invite students to think about what defines a genre. And anyone can enjoy the premade playlists while grading papers or during independent work time. Get inspired with our teaching guide and hear from experts during the panel discussion from Detroit PBS.

National Music Week in Michigan

National Music Week is May 4-11, and we can’t wait! Our Music and Dance collection has live performances, interviews, and more from Detroit Performs from Detroit PBS, Backstage Pass from WKAR in Lansing, and more! Learn about local artists in your social studies class, or use these as inspiration to host your own interviews. Plus, travel to Texas with lessons from Austin City Limits from Austin PBS, the longest running music series in the country.

A ready-to-use, five-week digital storytelling project

We’ve got an easy, effective way to engage young people, lift their voices and stories, and find a way to authentically assess what they’ve learned this year. Our five-week project lets students explore their interests while learning storytelling and media creation skills. This week, we’re going over the introduction. Plan ahead with our full outline.
