In this lesson, Farmer Nick and Plant show you how plants drink water!

Just as all living things need food, they all need water too. Last time, we learned how plants soak up sunlight and make their own food from it, all inside of their bodies. But how do plants get the water they need?

Simple: plants are like straws! The roots at the very bottom of the plant suck up any water they find, then that water moves all the way up the stem of the plant to the leaves and flowers that need a drink. The plant does this all the time, all by itself.

To prove it, Farmer Nick and Plant will show you how to take a white flower and turn it any color you want… just by changing the color of the water it drinks!

As I’ve said before: patience is a virtue, young seedlings. The hands-on part of this lesson will require you to wait for a day or two, but what you see will be worth the wait!
