Scotland’s First Marine No-Take Zone | Hope in the Water

Conservationists in Scotland discuss their successful effort to engage their community and policymakers in establishing a marine reserve–specifically a “no-take zone”–and the benefits it has had in restoring the health of their local ecosystems and improving livelihoods for community members.

Through this video taken from Hope in the Water, students will learn the power that local civic engagement has in driving policy and creating lasting, place-based change. Students will uncover the impact of human activity on underwater ecosystems and the value of creating marine protection zones to foster ocean health and restoration. They will uncover how responsibly managing resources leads to benefits for both people and the planet, and how to work with a diverse range of stakeholders within our community to make change possible.
