The Decimation of Montana Wildlife | Back from the Brink

Once Lewis and Clark returned from their epic journey with the Corps of Discovery in 1806, the western frontier was never the same. Successive waves of trappers, prospectors, miners, homesteaders, farmers, and ranchers rapidly settled the land in Montana and other states. Wildlife found in the west was a seemingly endless resource, and it was treated as such. Before long, the “endless” supply of wildlife that Montana had to offer was running out, and drastic changes were in dire need.
