The Stamp Act, Part 2 | The Shot Heard ’Round the World

In 1765, colonial leaders met together for the first time without the authority of the king in order to pass a declaration protesting the Stamp Act. The Sons of Liberty harassed tax collectors. In England, Benjamin Franklin, as the agent for the Pennsylvania Assembly, and British parliamentarian William Pitt persuaded the British Parliament to repeal the Stamp Act in 1766. However, parliament also passed the Declaratory Act, which said parliament had authority to make laws binding on the colonies in all cases.
