In this lesson, Farmer Nick and Plant teach you about collecting rainwater so you can make sure your plants have water to drink, even when it hasn’t rained in a long time!
Now, you already know that plants need water to survive, just like any other living thing. You also already know that a lot of the water plants drink comes from the rain, especially if the plants live outside.
But what if the rain isn’t enough? What if the plants need more to drink? What if there’s a drought, or a long period without any rain at all? (And what if the mischievous garden gnome drank every drop of water in the whole garden?)
As good gardeners, we need to be prepared for this. We need to save up extra water so we can give our plants a drink whenever the weather gets dry.
So in today’s hands-on lesson, you’ll be making your very own rainwater collection jar!
Once you’re done making the jar, check the weather forecast. With an adult’s help, choose a good spot for your jar and make sure it’s outside in time for the next rain!
