Stories of Engagement

“Ooooooooooooh!” Filled the Room!

The Michigan Civic Learning Week conference, held in Ypsilanti, focused on delivering high-impact civic education across the state. Over 70 educators participated in collaborative sessions designed to expand learning and share effective strategies.

In our session, It All Begins With Me: Civic Empowerment for Elementary Classrooms, K–3 educators explored how students can better understand and apply civics in contexts that matter to them. Participants identified their civic “superpower,” collaborated with colleagues, and created space for action using PBS resources.

They were especially grateful to Meemic for providing expandable tote bags. When I demonstrated how they could be used, there was a collective “Ooooooooooooh!” For teachers, it’s often the little things that surprise us.
