Traffic Coordinator

We are actively seeking dynamic and diverse team member to join us in the role of Traffic Coordinator, Michigan Learning Channel in Wixom, MI.
As Traffic Coordinator, the primary duty is to make sure accurate program logs are completed every day for DPTV’s Michigan Learning Channel. Additional responsibilities include communicating with the Content Coordinator for MLC to get interstitials in-house and logged in Airtable, Excel, and ProTrack. Traffic Coordinator will be involved in every aspect of logging, assigning media ID’s, downloading and formatting interstitials. Traffic Coordinator will also check all billboards in Master Control to ensure proper playback. The Traffic Coordinator will also work with the education and communications departments to ensure that on-air promotion aligns with strategy.
Essential Functions
- Scheduling all “break material” between programs and every element that is intended for airing during each program
- Coordinating promos with all departments, to insure they are completed in a timely manner and in sync with overall communication strategy
- Assist in monitoring and tracking program rights
- Generate reports of broadcast of spots for clients
- Serve as back-up Traffic Coordinator for Main Channel as needed
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills
- Must be able to handle many tasks at one time, while paying attention to detail, in that every second of airtime must be accounted for accurately
- Must understand technical requirements of broadcast operations to implement all desired elements in each broadcast stream
- Must be able to download and format interstitials
- Excellent communication with other departments
- Strong computer skills
- Problem solving skills and attention to detail
- Ability to be a self-starter and problem-solver and work well with others
Qualifications:
- High School diploma
- 3+ years of broadcast scheduling experience preferred
- Knowledge of broadcast scheduling systems
- Knowledge of broadcast automation systems
- Experience with Adobe Premiere Pro preferred
Physical Demands
Individual must be able to type and sit behind a desk for extended periods of time.

Production Intern

We are actively pursuing dynamic and diverse team members to join us in the role of MLC Production Intern in Wixom, MI.
What You’ll Do:
The Michigan Learning Channel is seeking an intern to support broadcast and digital video production through hands-on learning experiences. The Michigan Learning Channel (MLC) is a statewide public television partnership offering instructional content to support the education of students and to provide alternative resources for families and teachers. Designed to enrich school learning, the instructional content is aligned with Michigan’s educational standards and follows widely accepted sequences for mastering skills throughout the school year.
The MLC Production Intern will work with Michigan Learning Channel and Education Producers on educational programs including Extra Credit and Read, Write, ROAR! The MLC Production Intern will also work with the digital and engagement teams to produce social media content and posts. The MLC Production Intern will report to the Michigan Learning Channel Producer.
Essential Functions:
- Serve as a production assistant during remote and virtual production shoots
- Gather releases
- Capture production stills, and behind the scenes video for use in program promotion and social media
- Assist the producer with script notes
- Support the production of MLC programming content:
- Write episode descriptions
- Create transcripts, soundbites, thumbnails, and other assets
- Review and copy edit scripts
- Log footage
- Conduct research as assigned
- Edit rough cuts
- Participate in weekly meetings, including brainstorming sessions with station staff and external partners
- Create program cut downs for social media
- Other duties as assigned
Skills:
- Organized and detailed oriented
- Basic understanding of production documents, and processes (releases, scripts, shot lists)
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Basic office application knowledge (Excel, Word)
- Basic camera operation, lighting, and audio
- Basic non-linear editing and graphics creation (Adobe CC experience preferred but not required)
- Basic understanding of social media platforms including Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and YouTube
Qualifications:
- Enrollment in a university or vocational tech training program or recent graduate
- Pursuing broadcasting, film, video production, telecommunications, or communications degree preferred
- Ability and willingness to work approximately 20 hours per week, minimum 3 days per week
- Ability to work in a hybrid model, including working in-person at the Riley Broadcast Center (RBC) in Wixom, MI on Tuesdays, and during production shoots when possible

We are actively pursuing dynamic and diverse team members to join us in the role of Social Media Intern – Michigan Learning Channel in Wixom, MI.
What You’ll Do:
The Social Media intern will work closely with the MLC digital and engagement teams and the MLC Program Director to support brand awareness and statewide community building via social media, which includes writing, strategic planning, research and creation of digital assets. The MLC team will work with the successful candidate to develop an internship program that meets the needs of DPTV and the interests, skills and career aspirations of the individual.
Essential Functions:
- Write and create accurate, engaging, and relevant posts for social media (including Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter) that help to tell the MLC story and drive interactions across initiatives
- Maintain follower engagement and cultivate trust by commenting, responding, sharing, and liking posts that align with MLC’s mission
- Connect with multiple audiences, including teachers, parents/guardians, and young people, in order to incorporate diverse perspectives into communications and social posts
- Compile databases of various interest groups, partners, and thought leaders in order to maximize reach and expand audience
- Maintain awareness of current trends and topics in education
- Collaborate on editing videos, graphics, and stories for digital use
- Participate in brainstorm meetings for social media, which may include specific assignments to plan or contribute to planning of social media campaigns and/or tactics
- Identify best practices by researching trends across local and national public media and education outlets
- Other duties as assigned
Skills:
- Microsoft Office skills required, including Excel
- Knowledge of and fluency in social media, especially
- Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
Qualifications:
- Must be currently enrolled in 4-year university
Pursuing degree in marketing, communications, community organizing, social media strategy, or other related field - Interest/passion for education and educational media preferred
- Able to work 12-20 hours per week for a maximum of 1 semester, or 16 weeks

Youth-Facing Social Media Intern

We are actively pursuing dynamic and diverse team members to join us in the role of Social Media Intern – Michigan Learning Channel in Wixom, MI.
What You’ll Do:
Youth-Facing Social Media intern will work closely with the MLC Youth-Led Media Producer and the MLC Program Director to support brand awareness and statewide community building via social media, which includes writing, strategic planning, research and creation of digital assets, and community building alongside a teen and tween audience. The MLC team will work with the successful candidate to develop an internship program that meets the needs of DPTV and the interests, skills and career aspirations of the individual.
Essential Functions:
- Collaborate to develop a youth-centered social media strategy
- Write and create accurate, engaging, and relevant posts and stories for a teen and tween audience on social media (with a focus on Instagram and TikTok) that help to showcase youth- led work within MLC
- Leverage social media platforms to maintain follower engagement and cultivate trust by commenting, responding, sharing, and liking posts that align with youth-led MLC initiatives
- Connect with young people and youth-led organizations across the state in order to incorporate diverse perspectives into communications and social posts
- Maintain awareness of current trends and topics in education and popular culture, as well as relevant issues important to young people, to drive engagement strategy
Collaborate on editing videos, graphics, and stories for digital use
Skills:
- Microsoft Office skills required, including Excel
- Knowledge of and fluency in social media, especially Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
Qualifications:
- Must be currently enrolled in 4-year university
